Kariong: worth knowing before you renovate
Kariong is an established subdivision on a plateau surrounded by national park, the Council's character statement says, where houses are almost all single-storey brick-and-tile bungalows, plus a small pocket of older mid-20th-century timber-framed ones. In July 2023 a waste truck ejected its bulk kerbside load at a Kariong oval because of a fire, Central Coast Council said. We'll put you in contact with a licensed asbestos removalist.
At the 2021 Census, 91.9% of occupied private dwellings in Kariong were separate houses.

That truck fire is a reminder that some things don’t belong in kerbside waste. Asbestos is one: it can’t go out in household bins or an open skip (NSW EPA), so keep it out of any clean-up pile. Whether you’re in one of the brick-and-tile homes or an older timber bungalow, have any material you’re unsure about tested before you renovate (asbestos testing).
Phone us with what you’ve found, the spot it’s in, and a rough measure of how much. Say whether it’s whole or has broken up, and whether it’s inside, outside or in a shed. If you’ve started a renovation and stopped when you found it, tell us what was being done at the time. Let us know whether you own the house, and the easiest time to call you back.
