Quotes come from the removalist, not from us, and there’s no obligation to go ahead. The cost of removal depends on the age of the building and how it was built, how much asbestos there is, and whether it’s friable or bonded (asbestos.nsw.gov.au).
To help them quote, mention:
- what the material is and where it is: roof, eaves, outside walls, bathroom or laundry, floor, ceiling, fence or shed
- roughly how big it is, in square metres, or as a length and height
- whether it’s damaged, broken or crumbling
- whether it has been tested, and what the result was
- roughly when the house was built, if you know
- whether you’re renovating or demolishing, and whether you have council approval
- whether it’s a house, a townhouse or a unit, and whether you own or rent
Photos help. If the material is damaged, don’t touch or move it to take them. NSW Health says to wet damaged material down and cover it with plastic while you wait for help (NSW Health).
