The Entrance: worth knowing before you renovate

NBN News reported on 7 March 2022 that a structure behind a property in Fairview Street, The Entrance, burnt down and contaminated the area with asbestos, leaving the residents of two homes needing somewhere to stay. Council's 2024 thematic history describes how, by 2012, large apartments here loomed over tiny fibro houses. Call us, and with your okay we'll find you a licensed asbestos removalist.

The Entrance had 4,244 residents at the 2021 Census (ABS QuickStats).

After a fire, the rules tighten. Fire, hail or water blasting can turn bonded asbestos friable, and then only a removalist holding a Class A (friable) licence may remove it, the council’s asbestos page explains (Central Coast Council). Keep people and pets away from the debris, and don’t water-blast it or sweep it up dry (NSW Health). A neighbour’s fire can leave debris on your side of the fence too, so check before you mow.

Many homes here were empty on Census night in 2021 (37.3% of private dwellings). If the property is a holiday home or a rental you don’t live in, say so, and tell us who can give access. Then describe what burnt or broke, where it is, roughly how much there is, and whether it has been covered.
